Rome is the capital of Italy, one of the oldest cities on the planet, built in the 3rd century BC. Unlike other megacities, he did not disappear in time, retained his cultural wealth – palaces, fountains, squares, cathedrals, churches and objects of art.

Within the walls of the Eternal City, the Latin language, legislation and law was born, the foundations of which are still used by the whole Western world. The acronym SPQR (Senatus porulus que romanus), which can be seen on almost all old houses, saunas, and engineering structures, means that they belong to the people of Rome and the Senate, thus a community of citizens and the state is declared. This postulate was adopted by many states of the world.

Philosophy and politics, science and art take their roots here.

The historical center of Rome is located on 7 hills: Palatine, Capitol, Celius, Aventin, Esquiline, Quirinale and Viminal. The concentration of architectural monuments there is so great that its entire territory to the last pebble is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

In this part of Italy, the weather is determined by the Mediterranean climate. Hot summer. Often the temperature exceeds 30C. Winter is mild. The thermometer column rarely drops below 15C heat.

Better time for a visit is mid-spring and early fall, as there is no sweltering heat.

Every tourist knows that all roads lead to Rome. Within one city, you can see world masterpieces from different eras. This offer must be taken advantage of. It is simply impossible to list all the sights of the city, as well as to examine it in a couple of days.

In the list of places to visit, each cultural person should have a Colosseum. Built in the 1st century BC, it was the largest building for mass events in the Roman Empire. In those days, it was known as the Flavian Amphitheater. In the 8th century A.D. the name Colosseum appeared. Perhaps this was due to the huge size of the structure, or the statue of Nero, which the emperor erected in honor of himself nearby.

The Vatican is an enclave surrounded on all sides by walls. Despite its miniature size and population of 800 people, the city is recognized as an independent state. On its territory is located not only the residence of the Pope, but also the famous Sistine Chapel, the richest library with rare editions, as well as more than 20 museums with objects of Egyptian, Greek, Etruscan and Roman art.

The Sistine Chapel was built in the 15th century by order of Pope Sixtus IV, in whose honor it was named. The outwardly unremarkable building impresses with its interior decoration. The design of the chapel was worked by Pinturicchio, Sandro Botticelli, Cosimo Rosselli and Michelangelo, who painted the altar wall with a fresco “The Last Judgment”. Conclaves have been held in the Sistine Chapel since the 15th century.

St. Peter’s Square is a 2 semicircle in front of the main shrine of all Catholics – St. Peter’s Basilica. Here the pope addresses the flock with messages and congratulates the parishioners on religious holidays.

Trevi Fountain
The Trevi Fountain was created according to the sketches of the famous theater sculptor Bernini. It is located in front of the majestic palace of Paulie. The height of the fountain is 26m, width – 20m, in the center – the god Neptune on a chariot in the shape of a shell in which seahorses are harnessed.

Villa Borghese
Villa Borghese is a beautiful park located north of the Italian capital. It was built in the 17th century by Cardinal Camillo Borghese. Today it is a favorite vacation spot for citizens and tourists. There is also a gallery of modern art.

The Roman Forum was once a market and at the same time was the center of the social and political life of Rome. Today it has turned into the square and the main attraction of the Old Town.

The castle of the Holy Angel began to be built back in 135. Over 2000 years, the appearance of the structure and its functional purpose have repeatedly changed. There was a papal residence, a prison, a tomb, a treasury and even a prison. Today, the building houses the military history museum.

The name of the castle was in 590, when Pope Gregory the Great during the plague appeared Archangel Michael exactly on the roof of the castle. This sign marked the end of the epidemic.

To get acquainted with the sights of the Eternal City in the summer heat can be difficult. After a visit to the Vatican, visiting the Collision, the Pantheon, St. Peter’s Square and other iconic places of the ancient capital, go to the beaches, since the gentle Tyrrhenian Sea is not so far away. Here are the most gorgeous beaches near Rome, where famous people and ordinary tourists relax side by side.
