Tivat is a chamber town located in the Boka Kotorska Bay of the Adriatic Sea. Located on the Vrmac peninsula, it is the smallest administrative center of Montenegro, covering an area of only 46 km2. According to the latest census, just over 10,000 people live in Tivat.

The temperate Mediterranean climate, the abundance of sunny days in the year, the mountains that protect the area from the winds, make Tivat a desired vacation spot. The beach season opens in June and ends at the end of September. The warmest temperature values of both air and water are in July and August. During the day, the thermometer shows stable 30C, and the water pleases comfortable 24C. In winter, the temperature rarely drops below 12C heat.

What to see

Tivat occupies an important place in the Orthodox culture of Montenegro. In troubled times, at the turn of the 13-14 centuries, priests hid here from persecution and persecutors. They brought shrines with them, some still remained in the town. Since the 13th century, the residence of Metropolitan Zeta has been located here. It is not surprising that there are so many Orthodox churches in the city.

Churches and temples

The Church of the Annunciation is located near the city, in the village of Selyanovo. The small building is surrounded by a beautiful garden. The facade is decorated with a bas-relief depicting the Virgin Mary near the dying Christ.

Church of St. Mary is located in the village of Upper Lastva. The stone building, made in the Baroque style, stands on a hill, which offers stunning views of the surrounding area. The belfry of the church consists of 3 bells, the facade is decorated with a carved rosette, and the main highlight of the interior is the colored marble altar.

The small island of Mikholsk Prevlaka is another attraction. The ruins of the monastery of St. Michael the Archangel make it famous. Reconstruction is underway, and soon the architectural monument will appear in all its glory.

Bucha Palace

This complex architectural structure is considered a unique Renaissance monument. Built over 5 centuries ago, it is a classic example of Venetian defensive construction. The complex consists of several buildings: a residential building, a porch, outbuildings and the chapel of St. Michael. Today, in the palace premises there is a permanent exhibition of paintings.

City Park

You should definitely visit the city park. It can be called a full-fledged botanical garden, as it presents flowers and plants from around the world brought by sailors from distant wanderings. Fertile soils and a mild climate created unique conditions for the growth and development of the most exotic representatives of the flora.

The picturesque area, which also includes beaches, is often called the Tivat Riviera.

Opatovo Beach is located about 3 km from the city. The lighthouse divides it into 2 parts. A kilometer from Tivat is the long (1000 m) beach of Donya Lastva. It is famous for its clean sand and developed infrastructure. On the beach of Cape Selyanovo you can not only swim and sunbathe, but also enjoy the sunset on the pier, and then go to the local tavern to enjoy seafood.

Belana and Zhupa are located in the center of Tivat, because there is always crowded. The pebble beach of Krasici is located in the bay of the Kotor Bay. Flowers Beach is located on the island of the same name, which was named because of the rare plants that were found there. Nearby there is the city beach of Kalardovo with all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay – from sunbeds, umbrellas and sports fields to cafes, bars and restaurants.
